Cool Roof Solutions
A cool roof is a roofing system that can deliver high solar reflectance (the ability to reflect the visible, infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths of the sun, reducing heat transfer to the building) and high thermal emittance (the ability to radiate absorbed, or non-reflected solar energy) is a cool roof. While most cool roofs are white or other light colors there are cool color technologies that come in a variety of colors and still maintain high solar reflectance.
The roof stays cooler and reduces the amount of hear transferred to the structure below. This helps to keep the building cool and at a more consistent temperature.
The two basic characteristics that determine the 'coolness' of a roof are solar reflectance (SR) and thermal emittance (TE). Both properties are rated on a scale from 0 to 1, where 1 is the most reflective or emissive.
